Mr Joe Sparkes

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Spine.

Mr Joe Sparkes is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Tallaght Hospital in October 2003. At Trinity Mr Sparkes was an honours Surgery graduate and prize winner and was subsequently awarded the Sheppard Prize and a Travelling Scholarship from TCD. He was the inaugural recipient of the Irish-American Breast Cancer Research Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Apart from clinical education Mr Sparkes holds an honours degree in Biochemistry from TCD. He trained on the Dublin region surgical scheme and following his FRCS(Orth) went on fellowship to Canada where he trained in adult trauma and lower limb reconstruction, including hip and knee replacement at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center/Orthopaedic and Arthritic Institute/University of Toronto. This was followed by spine surgery at Vancouver General Hospital/University of British Columbia.

Mr Sparkes' main areas of clinical practice include adult spine surgery and hip and knee replacement and he has a special interest in minimally invasive spine surgery.
