Prof David Kane runs the Rheumatology & Bone Health Service at UPMC Beacon Hospital.

Prof Kane is a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin. He initially trained in Rheumatology at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin, which led to the award of PhD degree by University College Dublin for his thesis 'Immunopathogenesis of Psoriatic Arthritis'. This work led to the award of Irish Hospital Doctor of the Year (Rheumatology awards) in 2003 and 2005. He completed training in Rheumatology at the University of Glasgow & Glasgow Royal Infirmary and was appointed Senior Lecturer in Rheumatology at the University of Newcastle & Freeman Hospital from 2003-2005. He was awarded the British Society for Rheumatology Innovation award in 2005 for his work in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Rheumatology.

He is currently a Consultant Rheumatologist & General Physician at the Adelaide and Meath Hospital (incorporating the National Children's Hospital). His clinical interests are Inflammatory Arthritis, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging and Bone Health.

His practice offers a comprehensive Rheumatology service with particular interests in the early diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis including gout, immunotherapy of inflammatory arthritis, the application of musculoskeletal ultrasound in the diagnosis of joint and tendon disorders and ultrasound guided injection of joint and tendon disorders. He has also developed Bone Health services for patients attending the Orthopaedic Service with fragility fracture or found to be at risk of osteoporosis.
